Meet Sophie

  • B.S. Elementary Education and Youth Development, Plymouth State University

Sophie was born and raised in Connecticut, and has always been passionate about leading the youth. She began substituting, at her local Elementary School in Granby, which led her to her dream of teaching. She gained valuable experience working in childcare, where she developed a strong foundation in creating safe, engaging, and nurturing environments for young people. She decided to continue that passion at Plymouth State University. Up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Sophie worked in and out of schools with children of all ages and is deeply committed to supporting the youth as they learn, grow, and explore.

For the past three years, Sophie has spent her summers on Nantucket as a Group Leader at Strong Wings Adventure School, guiding children through meaningful outdoor experiences and group activities. This year, she is excited to make Nantucket her home and begin a new role as an Extended Day Teacher and Teacher Assistant at Nantucket Lighthouse School, where she looks forward to continuing to inspire and support students.

What Nantucket Lighthouse School means to Sophie

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Nantucket Lighthouse School community and to have the opportunity to work alongside such a dedicated team. I really value creating an environment where children feel comfortable being themselves and exploring their interests. Nantucket Lighthouse School has a strong sense of community, and I look forward to getting to know the students, teachers, and families.”
