If you need to park on Rugged Road, please park on the school side of the street. This helps us remain considerate of our neighbors and ensures the road stays accessible to emergency vehicles.
Absences & Illness
-
Please notify the school office by phone or email before the school day begins.
For a planned absence, please let your child’s teacher and the school office know at least one week in advance whenever possible.
-
Children should stay home when they are not well enough to comfortably participate in the full school day, including outdoor play and recess.
Children should be free from fever and vomiting for at least 24 hours before returning to school. A child who is sent home with a fever should remain home for the entire following school day.
-
Families considering an absence of ten or more school days should submit a written request to the Head of School. Extended leave requests are considered individually.
Ready for the Day
-
Learning at Lighthouse happens both inside and out. Children spend a significant amount of time outdoors throughout the year, so each child should keep the following at school:
Raincoat and rain pants
Rain boots
A spare set of dry clothes
Indoor slippers
Please apply sunscreen before school when needed and send additional sunscreen with your child.
-
Outdoor learning and play are an important part of the Lighthouse experience. Families should plan for children to spend time outside throughout the seasons and dress accordingly.

Yes. Lighthouse offers complimentary shuttle service to the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club for students who are enrolled at the Club.
Staying Connected
-
Lighthouse communicates regularly with families through school-wide emails, classroom communications, conferences, reports, and other updates throughout the year.
Families should keep their contact information current so they don’t miss important school communications.
-
Our School Calendar is the best place to find upcoming events, school closings, half-days, family gatherings, and other important dates.
-
Open, direct communication between families and teachers is an important part of the Lighthouse experience. Your child’s classroom teacher is the best place to begin with questions about your child’s experience, learning, or classroom life.
Our school team is always available to help connect you with the right person when you’re not sure where to begin.
Weather & Emergency Information
-
Lighthouse considers Nantucket Public Schools’ weather decisions while also assessing conditions on our own campus. Families will receive school-wide communication if there is a delay, closing, or other schedule change.
-
Lighthouse uses text alerts to communicate with families in the event of an emergency. Please make sure your current cell phone number is on file with the school.
